Artist Statement

I moved from the city to Tiger Mountain in Issaquah, making my home amongst trees, forest beasts, and in the company of a good woman.

It's a quiet place for a conscientious observer. With all of the textures and light, and movement of the wind, I'm learning about the spirit of the forest, and a certain solitude therein, where the me in me disappears.

There are mysteries about creating art I don't understand, and I may never, but the quest is worth the time. The craft of painting develops with practice. As the craft is mastered, its partner is freedom. Some of the mystery crystalizes, and becomes art.

I have been an artist for six decades, from grade school to present. My professional career began in my junior year in college with a one man show at Woodside Gallery in Seattle.  A year later, I received a BFA from the University of Washington.

The years since have included many shows and galleries, raising kids, building houses, coaching soccer and umpiring Little League baseball.  It's all art to me.
